Interfaith Conversation on Climate Change - Panel Discussion

Jan 23, 2008. 6:30 pm. Panorama East Room, 4th Floor Olpin Union Building, University of Utah. Hosted by SEED, the Office of Sustainability, and Utah Interfaith Power and Light. Elaine Emmi (Quaker) will moderate a lively discussion with faith leaders including Bishop Carolyn Tanner Irish (Episcopalian), Vaughn Lovejoy (Naturalist), George Handley (LDS), Imam Muhammad Shoeabe Mehtar (Muslim), Kol Ami congregation representative Daniel Gomez-Alaniz (Jewish), and Co-president of the U Student Interfaith Panel Amee Garcia (Catholic). Speakers will present on stewardship principles within their traditions and how religious and spiritual leaders and their members are responding to the challenge of global warming.

Wednesday, January 30th, 6-7:30 pm, Olpin Union Theatre, University of Utah.

Focus the Nation will stream a free, live, interactive webcast, The 2% SOLUTION. Join Stanford University climate scientist, Stephen Schneider, sustainability expert Hunter Lovins and green jobs pioneer Van Jones and youth climate leaders, for a discussion of global warming solutions. Includes cell-phone audience voting on proposed solutions.

 

Utah's Political Leadership and Policy Solutions to Global Climate Change - Panel Discussion

Jan. 31, 2008. 6-7:30 pm. Utah Museum of Fine Arts Auditorium, U of U.  Co-hosted by the Hinckley Institute and the Office of Sustainability. Panelists include Mayor Peter Corroon (Salt Lake County), Mayor Ralph Becker (Salt Lake City), Mayor Joanne Seghini (Midvale), Mayor Dave Sakrison (Moab), and Governor Huntsman's Energy Advisor Dianne Nielson. President Michael K. Young will give introductory remarks.

Permaculture Solutions to Climate Change - Workshop

Saturday, January 19th, 2008. 9:30 am - 4 pm. Panorama East Room, 4th Floor, Olpin Union Building, University of Utah.

Hosted by Tree Utah, SEED, and the Office of Sustainability. Permaculture instructor Emily Shumawary will present a full-day introductory workshop on permaculture landscape design. From plant selection and placement to water harvesting and soil-building, permaculture is one solution to climate change. Morning session will be in the classroom; afternoon session will include outdoor surveying of campus garden sites.

Open to the general public; sliding-scale donation suggested. Limited to 30 participants; contact Kendy at Tree Utah, 801-364-2122 x3, to register.
