Completion of Recycling Revitalization Plan |
In 2004, the U of U started a recycling revitalization effort.Students and administration identified a six-step plan to discover the most realistic improvements. There has been continuous effort by dedicated staff and a determined student body to complete step of the process. |
Implementation of Expanded Paper Collection System |
2007 marks the kick-off of the University of Utah Recycling System. This system specifically targets paper, since that is the largest quantity and most marketable commodity in our waste stream. Two paper categories are separated: Office Pack is more valuable for resale, while Mixed Paper is a more inclusive category. For more information about paper categories or collection bins please visit the University Recycling website |
Centralized Campus System |
The University of Utah Recycling System is a centralized effort for use all across campus. Previously, different campus jurisdictions had to set up their own recycling programs. Now, Plant Operations manages recycling so that all sections of campus can use the same system. |
Supplemental Recycling Efforts |
The centralized campus system replaces the old paper collection, but some other materials will continue to be recycled as they were before. Aluminum canisters are found by some vending machines. Flattened cardboard and bound volumes are also collected in bulk. To request a pick-up of these materials talk to the building Custodial Crew Leader or call 581-6108. The University also recovers yard waste and hazardous materials. |
