About the Resource Center

"With thousands of desktop computers in use at the University of Utah there is a great amount of power used and a great amount of both paper waste and e-waste produced.

Some simple solutions can help to reduce the impact of these deployments. Please make use of these best practices in order to develop a practice that best fits your individual needs.

This document is intended for users who manager their own computer. If you have a computer administrator you will want to discuss these practices first on order not to interfere with any automated processes that may be running on your computer."

About the initiative

University standards and best practices will be developed as building blocks from which to develop solutions that meet the needs of various IT architectures. These building blocks are provided as a direct response to the University of Utah Environmental Citizenship Principle.

This initiative will drive the University of Utah to be a leader in this field and challenge the University on many current and future IT solutions.

Committee Structure

The Green Computing Steering Committee will meet on a bimonthly basis in order to drive the content of this wiki forward as well as work on aligning this focus with the focus of Campus wide initiatives driven by the Office of Sustainability.

A focus of information sharing with the general campus community via e-mail and this forum is the primary communications method for this initiative. The steering committee will showcase Green solutions both on and off campus.
