Sustainability Education and Policy Advocates

"Nature provides a free lunch, but only if we control our appetites.” –William Ruckelshaus

Why SEPA was founded

As students at the University of Utah, we have seen a growing need for sustainable practices that will improve the health of the campus, students, faculty, and environment.  We believe its important to educate all those on campus about what sustainability is, why it is important, and work to implement practices.

What are SEPA’s goals?

  • Aid in designing public or private policy that promotes economic efficiency, environmental responsibility, and effective resource management.
  • Sponsor education and guest lectures on campus regarding various sustainable and beneficial practices, investments, and policies.
  • Network with students, faculty, and other student groups to pursue special projects and objectives.

Achieving our goals

Work with students and faculty from a variety of disciplines to form effective and well-rounded policy and practices.

Employ economic principles and progressive cost-benefit analysis for various projects on campus and within the community to make sustainable investment decisions.

Implement concise, attractive educational campaigns across campus.

Develop a guest lecture series as an educational resource about what sustainability is, why its important, how to get involved, and what current trends and movements are taking place in the world.
