Marie Martin

Administrative Program Coordinator

Marie Martin, BA

Marie recently graduated from Westminster College with a BA in Political Science and a minor in Environmental Studies. Prior to working in the Office of Sustainability, Marie worked at Salt Lake County Mayor Corroon's Office of Environmental Policy. She had the opportunity to work on a number of initiatives including the County's employee Environmental Pledge program, which encouraged employees to pledge to take small, but significant steps to lessen their energy use. Marie had the opportunity to conduct Independent Summer Research through funding from the Westminster College Honors Program. She focused on the use and implications of utilizing feminized language to discuss nature in the context of environmental literature and law. Marie combined both her interests in policy and the environment in her senior thesis, "A Policy Analysis of the Solar America Initiative," which drew a comparison between Germany and the United States' approaches to alternative, renewable energy proliferation. In addition, Marie served as an Environmental Ad Hoc committee member while in school and played a preliminary role in the implementation of a Campus Free Bike Program.

Marie's passion for wilderness began at a young age as she grew up camping in the deserts of Southern Utah with her family. Today, Marie enjoys hiking, biking, skiing and snowboarding, painting, reading, volunteering at the Utah Humane Society, spending time with her husband and family, and spreading the word about sustainability.
