Campus Shuttles

The University of Utah campus is built upon a hillside where approximately 300 buildings spread over 1,534 acres! The campus shuttle program makes it easier for people to get around campus, especially for those who are willing to ditch their car at home and commute via mass transit.

Success

The Shuttle system has also helped reduce traffic congestion and provide easier access to remote parking lots. Shuttle rider ship has increased by more than 50% in the last 5 years. The shuttle system consists of 18 routes that are operated with a fleet of 24 vehicles that hold 40 passengers each. Currently, more than 1.6 million passengers are carried per year!

Biodiesel Fuel

Two shuttles are fueled with natural gas (CNG) and the department is currently converting two buses to operate on used restaurant oil rather than diesel. In addition, 19 other buses are equipped to burn bio-diesel.

In mid-June of 2007, the U of U in conjunction with the State Fuel Network started using bio-diesel at the fuel site located on our University Campus. Bio-diesel grade B-20 is now being dispensed to all equipment that has a diesel motor.
